Teenagers

A scene from Rumble Fish. One of my favorite movie when I was a young lad. Nothing got to do with the story I am writing. But the deep emotion is similar.

Met with two 17 year old recently. I have this habit of chatting up people and observing them and what they say. Two teenagers, with different background.

Teenager 1: Came from a family in Southern Thailand. He comes to Malaysia with both his parent. Apparently working as a waiter in one of the restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. The parent are cooks at the same restaurant.
He is still wanted in Southern Thailand for drug abuse and trade. At 17 he is already a pusher? Looking at his frail built, and the cleanliness of his boyish face, he does not look like one of those thugs. And yet his story is true.
Now a fugitive, running from the law of his country. Wonder what has life in store for him?

Teenager 2: Came from a well to do family in Sabah. Taking his SPM this year. Parent from well known Malay and Chinese descendants in Sabah. Live an easy life.
He dreams to be a lawyer. He is set going into university of his choice after SPM. As body built is concern, he is frail like the teenager 1. Innocent boyish face.
Life seems to be better for him compared to the teenager 1.

My thinking: What are the chances that this two teenagers will make the best of their remaining years of living? I belief, given the proper guidance and chances, both can excel. PROVIDED, they choose so!
