Belasungkawa

Belasungkawa : condolence; expression of sympathy.

The more I want to learn Bahasa Malaysia, the more I find weird and funny words. It is intriguing to me trying to find where these words were originally from. Most were from sunskrit with a mixture of arabic.

Anyhow, how come I have never heard or seen, anybody wishing someone, "Belasungkawa untuk keluarga awak, di atas kematian si ...." ?

Have fun using this new word. I feel the word is so ancient....

heh, I only know "takziah" for condolence, not this long elaborate word you share, which I will promptly forget as soon as I navigate away form this page, LoL! I've always found malay to be just too flowery, and this word is just another proof, teeheehee :-D

Dadeghost:
I could be wrong lah but as far as I know, the word 'belasungkawa' actually refers an orbituary rather than expression of sympathy not in the normal sense.

Wallahualam
